Between Language, Place & Poetry

I've enjoyed singing and journaling since I was young, but I began writing poetry as a daily practice while earning an MA in English at the University of Maine under the tutelage of Constance Huntings. My first collection of poems, The Next Unknown, was accepted for publication in 2010, and other books and publications followed.

Songwriting and poetry are different outlets for me, but in both I enjoy the performative aspect—music and poetry want to be heard.

I'm deeply grateful for the communities that sustain me, here Downeast and in Silver City, New Mexico, where my husband and I spend the winter. The many venues, gatherings and open mics—and the friends and fellow writers, musicians and artists I've found there—create opportunities for sharing work and mutual inspiration.

Fun Fact About Me

When asked which language I dream in, I usually say it depends on the context. But I'm not sure there's a language in my dreams at all.
