Discover the creative art of 2-D needle felting in this beginner-friendly workshop led by fiber artist Cricket Kaufman.

Learn the basics of needle felting while transforming a favorite wool garment into a one-of-a-kind wearable piece of art. Whether you're repairing signs of everyday wear or simply adding your own creative flair, you'll leave with new skills and a personalized project you'll be proud to wear.

All felting materials are provided. Participants should bring a wool garment to decorate or mend. If you don't have one, a piece of wool fabric will be provided that can later be sewn onto another item.

No previous experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a willingness to learn.

Space is limited to 8 participants. Advance registration is required.

What You'll Learn

What to Bring

Please bring one wool garment to decorate or mend.

If you don't have a suitable garment, wool fabric will be provided for you to create a decorative patch that can later be sewn onto another item.

Choosing the Right Garment

For best results, your garment should be made from a protein fiber, such as:

✔ Sheep's wool

✔ Cashmere

✔ Alpaca

✔ Angora

Please avoid:

• Cotton

• Linen

• Silk

• Polyester

• Nylon

• Acrylic

(Blends that closely mimic wool may work.)

Also avoid:

• Jackets with linings (unless you're comfortable removing the lining)

• Very chunky knit sweaters

Flat, tightly knit wool garments work best.

About the Instructor

Cricket Kaufman is a fiber artist originally from western Massachusetts who now calls Asheville, North Carolina home. Their lifelong passion for fiber arts began with embroidery as a child and expanded through formal weaving studies in the Professional Craft Program at Haywood Community College.

Today, Cricket works extensively with wool through weaving, natural dyeing, needle felting, and wet felting. Sharing these traditional fiber arts through hands-on workshops has become an important part of their creative practice, and they look forward to helping students discover the possibilities of working with wool.
