About

Introducing

Morgan Rolfe

Morgan Rolfe is the artist behind Buggy Friends, a creative studio based in Machias, Maine, where science, nature, and art come together. Working across digital illustration, jewelry, photography, painting, and drawing, Morgan creates artwork inspired by the fascinating creatures found throughout Downeast Maine.

A lifelong artist and self-described science enthusiast, Morgan has always been fascinated by the natural world. Insects—especially moths and beetles—are frequent subjects in their work, reflecting a deep appreciation for the overlooked beauty of small creatures. Morgan's artwork combines creativity with education, helping others see the incredible details and stories found in the wildlife around us.

Morgan’s current projects include a “Local Species” series highlighting insects found along the coast of Maine, with plans to transform the illustrations into stickers and educational poster prints. Her work has also been featured through a commissioned Atlantic Puffin illustration created for a local business, now available on earrings at the gift shop at Acadia Puffin Cruise.

When Morgan isn’t creating, she enjoys spending time with family, exploring the outdoors, and finding inspiration in the bugs, birds, and other small wonders that make Maine such a special place.

My Story

Tiny Creatures, Big Stories

I have always been drawn to the little things that many people overlook. Growing up in Washington County, I have been surrounded by the incredible natural beauty of Maine, and so much of my inspiration comes from exploring the world around me—looking for insects, birds, fish, and other wildlife that tell their own stories.

I am a science enthusiast and nature lover at heart, and insects are definitely my favorite animals. I have a particular fascination with moths and beetles, which appear often in my artwork. Through Buggy Friends, I love creating pieces that celebrate these tiny creatures and encourage people to see them in a new way.

My Artistic Journey

I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. I was the kid who spent class time doodling instead of focusing on the lesson, but my love of creating continued to grow. In high school, I began taking art more seriously through Advanced Art courses.

A few years ago, I purchased a digital drawing tablet so I could continue creating while traveling, and I have used it almost nonstop ever since. Digital art gives me the flexibility to keep making art while balancing life as a parent and working full-time.

One of my favorite pieces I have created is my “Common Ticks of Maine” poster. I drew each tick individually on my tablet and brought everything together into an educational design. I love that my artwork can be both creative and informative.
